Kakao Entertainment announced today (26th) that the ‘23rd Korean Popular Music Awards (KMA) with Kakao Creative Foundation’ ceremony will be live-streamed online starting at 8 PM through the music platform Melon. This ceremony will be simultaneously held on the Melon mobile app and the Melon channel on YouTube, allowing viewers to witness all the award moments in real-time.
Now in its 23rd year, the Korean Popular Music Awards will select winners in a total of 26 categories across three fields, including ‘Album of the Year’, ‘Song of the Year’, and ‘Artist of the Year’, as well as genre-specific categories. Immediately after the ceremony concludes, a playlist featuring all the award-winning songs will be released on Melon, and next month, a magazine containing behind-the-scenes content from the ceremony will be gradually unveiled.
Known as the ‘Grammy Awards of Korea’, the Korean Popular Music Awards was established in 2004 and is an awards ceremony evaluated by a selection committee composed of music critics and professional journalists, focusing on musicality. This year, Kakao Creative Foundation is participating as the title sponsor and will also run a ‘Music Connect Program’ that provides 5 million won worth of album production costs per person to the winners and nominees of the Rookie Award.
Meanwhile, Melon has continuously spotlighted indie music and emerging artists through initiatives like ‘Track Zero’ and ‘Artist of the Month’, and it is expected that this live broadcast of the awards ceremony will widely promote the diversity of Korean popular music.
