As the Disney+ original series 〈GoldLand〉 moves deeper into its later episodes, it is further strengthening the hidden stories among its characters. In episodes 7 and 8 released on the 20th, the sacrifice and past history of Woo-gi (Kim Sung-cheol), a helper to the protagonist Hee-ju (Park Bo-young), were revealed.
In the drama, Woo-gi is a low-level member of a donor-funded business, and he is the person who forms an alliance with Hee-ju, who gets her hands on the gold bars of a smuggling organization. In this episode, even as Woo-gi faces a crisis in which his identity is exposed to the organization’s director Park (Lee Kwang-soo), he carries out the process of handing over the gold bars he has secured and enduring torture to protect Hee-ju.
In particular, this round mentions the two characters’ past connection, giving legitimacy to their relationship. Through a scene in which Woo-gi reminds Hee-ju of memories from her time at a coal mine during a phone call, the show explained the background for the bond that formed beyond a simple assisting relationship, boosting viewers’ immersion in the story.
〈GoldLand〉 is a survival thriller depicting the struggle of the characters as they fight to seize the smuggling organization’s gold bars worth 150 billion won. Starring Park Bo-young, Kim Sung-cheol, Lee Kwang-soo, and more, the series releases two episodes every Wednesday. Composed of 10 episodes in total, this series has only the final two episodes remaining for release.
