Hirokazu Kore-eda's 'Look Back' Set for Oct. 8 Release

Hirokazu Kore-eda’s new film 〈Look Back〉 will open Oct. 8. Megabox JoongAng Co., Ltd., which is importing and distributing the film, said it will open Oct. 8 and has been invited to compete at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival.

The film 〈Look Back〉 follows two girls, Fujino and Kyomoto, who meet through manga and, over four unforgettable seasons, become each other's world in a story about friendship and youth. It is based on the short manga of the same name by Tatsuki Fujimoto, author of the 「Chainsaw Man」 series, and is the first live-action film adaptation of any work by Tatsuki Fujimoto. Hirokazu Kore-eda, who won the Palme d'Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival with the film 〈Shoplifters〉, directed, wrote and edited the film.

The two newly released main posters capture memories at two points in time. One poster features young Fujino (Furi Nanase) and young Kyomoto (Roka Okada) connected by the dream of manga; the other shows the two as adults—Fujino (Natsuki Deguchi) and Kyomoto (Aju Makita)—running toward their dreams. The tagline, "We drew together and became who we are," hints at the story that awaits the two characters.

The score is by Yuta Bando, and K2 Pictures and Shueisha are part of the production team. 〈Look Back〉, adapted from Tatsuki Fujimoto's manga and directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, opens in theaters Oct. 8.
