A $14 million piece of the 'Last Dance'
'Emperor of Basketball' 'Michael Jordan's' legendary game-worn jersey has found a new owner for '$14 million' (about 18.7 billion won). It is the highest price ever paid at auction for a piece of basketball memorabilia.
The Associated Press reported on the 13th, Korea time, that the 'Chicago Bulls' jersey Jordan actually wore during the 1998 NBA Finals was sold to 'Ron Furman', a Miami real estate investor.
Jordan wore the jersey in Game 2 of the Finals on June 5, 1998, local time, and his 'autograph' remains on it, adding significantly to its value as a collectible. The Chicago Bulls defeated the Utah Jazz that day to even the series at 1-1.
Every time a game-worn jersey from Jordan's 1998 Finals — the season known as the 'Last Dance' — enters the auction market, it draws an enthusiastic response from collectors around the world. A Game 1 jersey offered at auction in 2022 sold for '$10.1 million', while a Game 3 jersey that found a new owner last month sold for '$12.3 million', underscoring Jordan's enduring status.
The most expensive game-worn jersey ever sold across all sports, meanwhile, is the uniform worn by 'Babe Ruth', the New York Yankees legend, which sold for '$24.12 million' (about 32.3 billion won) in 2024. Ruth wore it when he hit his historic 'called shot' home run against the Chicago Cubs in Game 3 of the 1932 World Series.
