Watching the Early Works of Neo Sora, Director of 'Happy End'.. Cineplay X Orpheo Hannam, Special Exhibition of Ryuichi Sakamoto

This year, with 130,000 viewers in the country, the film 〈Happy End〉 by director Neo Sora has received enthusiastic support from cinephiles, providing an opportunity to meet the early documentary works that marked the cinematic starting point of Neo Sora.

Naver Movie's official partner Cineplay and the music-specialized content screening lounge Orpheo Hannam will hold a 'Special Exhibition of Ryuichi Sakamoto' on November 29 (Saturday) and 30 (Sunday). Directors Min Kyu-dong of 〈The Drug King〉, Byun Sung-hyun of 〈The Drug King〉, music critics Hwang Deok-ho, Bae Soon-tak, and Kim Na-hee will participate as GV guests to provide rich commentary alongside Cineplay's editor-in-chief, Joo Sung-cheol.

The core of this special exhibition is the 'Ryuichi Sakamoto Documentary Trilogy'. Neo Sora handled the filming for 〈Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda〉 (2017) and 〈Ryuichi Sakamoto: Async〉 (2018), and directed 〈Ryuichi Sakamoto: Opus〉 (2023), which captures his father's final performance, solidifying his identity as 'Director Neo Sora'.

While working between New York and Tokyo, Neo Sora began to gain attention with the short film 〈The Chicken〉 (2020), which received high praise from the French film magazine 'Cahiers du Cinéma'. Subsequently, he laid the foundation for film directing by creating a documentary about his father Ryuichi Sakamoto, and that experience led to his first feature film 〈Happy End〉, which was invited to the Orizzonti section of the 81st Venice International Film Festival.

This special exhibition will also screen Hirokazu Kore-eda's feature debut 〈Maborosi〉 (1995) and Jacques Audiard's early work 〈The Beat That My Heart Skipped〉 (2005). Located on the 5th floor of Yongsan Sounds Hannam, Orpheo Hannam is a premium cinema with 30 seats equipped with 34 Danish Steinway Ringdorf high-end speaker systems, making it the perfect space to delicately enjoy Ryuichi Sakamoto's music and performances.
