The Korean Film Archive held an online special exhibition to commemorate actor Ahn Seong-ki, who passed away on the 5th.
On the 9th, the Korean Film Archive released 10 representative works of Ahn Seong-ki from the 1980s and 1990s for free on its YouTube channel 'Korean Classic Films'. The films include Im Kwon-taek's 〈Mandala〉 (1981), 〈The People of Kkobangdong〉 (1982), Bae Chang-ho's 〈Whale Hunting〉 (1984), 〈Our Joyful Young Days〉 (1987), and Im Kwon-taek's 〈Festival〉 (1996), which are masterpieces that will remain in the history of Korean cinema.
The works released this time are restored versions in HD resolution or 4K quality that the Korean Film Archive has preserved, vividly capturing the period when Ahn Seong-ki led the golden age of Korean cinema.
The Korean Film Archive also presented a video essay titled 〈Our Joyful Young Days and Ahn Seong-ki〉, which compiles scenes that highlight the character traits of Ahn Seong-ki. This 9-minute video includes appearances of the late actor in 10 films from the 1980s, starting from Lee Jang-ho's 〈A Good Day for the Wind to Blow〉 (1980) to 〈Chil-soo and Man-soo〉 (1988).
A representative from the Korean Film Archive stated, "We commemorate actor Ahn Seong-ki, who was with Korean cinema," and added, "The traces of his acting and life left on the screen will be remembered by us for a long time."
