Cinema Dal Co., Ltd., which has been a strong support for Korean independent films, has successfully launched its independent film curation subscription service 'DaDal' on March 1st. It has received enthusiastic interest from independent film fans right from the launch, proving its potential as a new alternative for distribution.
The first selection is Director Jo Eun's 〈Sadang-dong Plus〉 series… A persistent record of 33 years
The historic first 'Film of the Month' selected by 'DaDal' is Director Jo Eun's monumental documentary 〈Sadang-dong Plus〉 series. This curation includes 〈Sadang-dong Plus 33〉(2020) and 〈Sadang-dong Plus 22 Director's Cut: Story of Byeoldongne〉(2009).
This work, which has tracked the life of a family starting from the demolition site in Sadang-dong in 1986 for an incredible 33 years, questions the essential value of documentary through the process of the camera blending into the subject's life like a landscape. Subscribers can watch this grand record through a dedicated link throughout March.
Poet Kang Ha-ra's deep contemplation… “While we misinterpret each other”
The 'Writing of the Month' delivered with the film is adorned by Kang Ha-ra, the winner of the 2026 World Daily New Year's Literary Contest. In her piece titled 〈While We Misinterpret Each Other〉, she intersects her poetic world with the lives of the family in 〈Sadang-dong Plus〉.
The poet's writing, which densely unravels the countless 'misinterpretations' surrounding the world and the reflections within them, has been pre-released to subscribers and will be made available to the general public on the Cinema Dal website on April 1st.
The power of curation proven by high viewing rates… Recruitment for Issue 2 subscribers begins
Analysis of subscribers recruited in February showed that the email open rates and actual content access rates significantly exceeded those of typical newsletter services. This is interpreted as a result of the audience's desire to reflect on life through films and writings, aligning with Cinema Dal's authentic curation.
Having taken a successful first step, 'DaDal' will recruit subscribers for Issue 2 throughout March. The film industry is focused on what independent films and writings will enrich the audience's daily lives in the upcoming Issue 2, set to be published on April 1st.
