A Man of Ideas, Kim Chul-soo, Who Can’t Step Out of the Textbook! Main Poster & Trailer Released!

A story of a man who writes his own wrong answers outside the model answers 〈A Man of Ideas, Kim Chul-soo〉 will be released on April 22.

A special wrong-answer notebook of a man who only ever chose the model answers in life 〈A Man of Ideas, Kim Chul-soo〉 draws attention by unveiling the main poster and main trailer. 〈A Man of Ideas, Kim Chul-soo〉 is a black comedy about “Chul-soo,” an elementary school teacher who has spent his entire life choosing only answers set by society, as he leaves for a satellite city to search for his own ideas in the face of a crisis of separation.

First, the main poster released this time captivates the eye with colors and textures reminiscent of textbook illustrations, featuring the 90s-born representative characters “Chul-soo” and “Young-hee,” now in their 30s, facing each other. Next, the tagline “Picking only multiple-choice correct answers” instantly shows the life of “Chul-soo,” who has always chosen only the correct answers, and hints at the strange changes he will experience for the first time. In particular, the formula written between the two characters—“Distance = Speed × Time”—symbolizes “Chul-soo’s” life, which has been accustomed to memorizing answers, and sparks curiosity about how his daily routine, where the correct answer was always predetermined like a math equation, will start to wobble.

The main trailer also begins with a meaningful narration by the psychiatrist “Dr. Leonardo,” who says, “Mr. Chul-soo, Mr. Chul-soo—are you Korean? Then you must have grown up under very typical Korean parents.” It compresses and presents “Chul-soo’s” life as someone who has chosen only the answers society set, for his entire life. In the following scenes, “Chul-soo” makes a heartfelt proposal to his girlfriend “Semi,” but the breakup crisis he faces because “Semi” leaves for Santiago, only leaving him with words full of uncertainty, clicks with the tagline “A 30-year model-answer life—crumbling in front of the short-answer questions,” showing the unexpected hardships that hit his life, trapped in fixed ideas. In particular, the tagline “The moment you step outside the textbook, everything starts to be wrong” foreshadows the journey of “Chul-soo,” who chooses extreme change in order to get love back, heading toward an unfamiliar satellite city. His offbeat, bold adventure—walking backward down the street to break out of the existing frame of social stereotypes—piques the curiosity of prospective viewers. And with the appearance of “Young-hee,” a friend from his childhood, the story becomes even more impossible to predict.
