HBO Original 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' to Stream on Coupang Play This Fall

Coupang Play announced on the 21st that it will exclusively premiere the HBO Original series 〈Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone〉 in South Korea in the second half of this year.

This series is the first season of the TV adaptation based on the original novel 〈Harry Potter〉. The original author J.K. Rowling participated directly in production as an executive producer, and Mark Mylod, who directed the film 〈The Menu〉 and the drama 〈Succession〉, serves as director. Music is by Hans Zimmer.

The casting lineup has also been finalized. The new Harry Potter will be played by Dominic McLaughlin, Hermione Granger by Arabella Stanton, and Ron Weasley by Alastair Stout. Also appearing are Janet McTeer and John Arthur Lithgow.

This eight-episode series will explore the source material in greater depth. The official trailer released in March surpassed 270 million views in just two days, drawing massive attention.

Ahead of the main release, Coupang Play on the 16th exclusively released the behind-the-scenes documentary 〈Finding Harry: Magicians Behind the Camera〉. The film documents the casting process, set design, and other aspects of the production.
