The best North American opening and a global box-office surge However, after opening on April 24 (local time), public reaction was completely different. Rated A- by CinemaScore, which measures audience response firsthand, it immediately grabbed attention, and—just as Michael Jackson’s enduring popularity would suggest—pulled in $39.5 million on opening day, setting the best opening record among North American releases in 2026. By the end of the first weekend, worldwide box office had already surpassed $200 million.
