Lee Do-hyun fires the opening shot for his return to the screen with Nambal.

The film Nambal announced on July 20 that actor Lee Do-hyun has joined the cast. Nambal is a hard-boiled martial arts action story set in the early Joseon era, in which nine warriors with different abilities and ranks head to Daemado to rescue prisoners kidnapped by Japanese pirates. It has drawn attention as Lee Byung-hun and Go Yoon-jung have been added to the lineup.

After starring as a 2020s star through TV dramas 18 Again , Sweet Home , and The Glory , as well as the 10-million-audience milestone film Paimyo , Lee Do-hyun completed his military service from August 2023 to May 2025 and finished filming the drama Grand Galaxy Hotel . After not unveiling any particular next project, Lee Do-hyun plans to further accelerate his return to the screen by joining Nambal.

Nambal marks director Lee Mo-gae’s directorial debut, one of South Korea’s representative cinematographers. He and Lee Do-hyun previously worked together on Paimyo. The production is currently in the preproduction stage, with filming targeted to begin at the end of this year.
