Netflix on Monday confirmed that its new original variety series 〈Take a Hike!〉 will premiere Aug. 18 and unveiled a teaser poster and trailer.
〈Take a Hike!〉 follows four "reluctant hikers" who have shown little interest in hiking as they embark on their first trek up a snowy winter mountain. Car, the Garden, Dowoon, Lee Chae-min and Tarzan form a mountaineering club and tackle a brutal winter peak, documenting their search for an answer to the question "Why on earth do people hike?"
Egg Is Coming produced the series. Na Young-seok and Park Hyun-yong co-directed it, and writers Lee Woo-jung and Choi Jae-young joined the project for a new variety-show collaboration with Netflix.
The teaser poster and trailer capture novice hikers struggling through their first trek up a snowy winter mountain. Against the dazzling winter mountain scenery, the four look exhausted and visibly surprised by challenges that exceed their expectations, creating a stark contrast.
Director Park Hyun-yong said, "We intended to create a raw variety show that shows people truly struggling. South Korea's winter snow mountains are the harshest and most unforgiving, yet paradoxically they hold scenery more beautiful than any other season. When four people who have spent their lives far removed from the mountains are thrown into that extreme environment, I wanted to capture the raw chemistry that develops as they support and drive one another forward and complete the journey together."
〈Take a Hike!〉, which chronicles the chaotic hikes of novice climbers, is planned as a 10‑episode series and will be released on Netflix over three weeks beginning Aug. 18.
