British acting legend 'Anthony Hopkins', 89, a two-time Academy Award winner for best actor, has released melodies he spent a lifetime creating. The album brings together 12 orchestral works he composed over six decades, finally fulfilling a long-held dream of becoming a musician.

Decca Classics, the world-renowned classical label, announced that Hopkins officially released his first recorded album, 'Life Is a Dream' (Life is a dream), on the 21st. The album is more than a brief detour into another field; it is the culmination of a musical passion that has run through his life.

Through 'Decca Classics', Hopkins said, "Music was my first desire and my first wish," adding, "Some of these works have been with me for decades, and I still find myself returning to them." Reflecting on the album's title, he said, "My entire life has been a dream, and signing with Decca is the honor of a lifetime."

Top artists join forces on melodies steeped in homesickness

Classical music superstars gathered for a secret recording session at London's Alexandra Palace in April. Led by world-renowned conductor 'Gustavo Dudamel', the lineup included the Philharmonia Orchestra, pianist Sergio Tiempo and cellist Gregorio Nieto, among other top-tier musicians, raising the quality of the production.

'Gustavo Dudamel' praised Hopkins as "a rare artist with a creative voice that transcends a single medium," adding, "Every time I hear his work, I am deeply struck by its beauty, craftsmanship and the sense of wonder that lives and breathes within it." Hopkins, in turn, said, "I offer my deep gratitude and respect to Dudamel, who has been a vital part of the artistic heart of this musical journey."

The album's centerpiece is 'Bracken Road,' from '1947: Suite for Solo Piano and Orchestra', which Hopkins composed in 1963. The masterful work poignantly captures the lyrical landscape around the family home in South Wales, where he spent his childhood in the 1940s. The album also includes tracks such as 'My Fatherland,' 'Stella Aria' and 'Tara,' which reflect his profound inner world through a deep longing for family and home.

A self-taught composer breaks artistic boundaries

Welsh-born 'Anthony Hopkins' is an icon of his era, known for acclaimed films including 'The Silence of the Lambs,' 'The Elephant Man,' 'Legends of the Fall,' 'The Two Popes' and 'The Father.' He reached the pinnacle of his acting career by winning the Academy Award for best actor twice, for 'The Silence of the Lambs' in 1991 and 'The Father' in 2021.

But behind his dazzling achievements as an actor, he quietly nurtured another creative identity as a composer from childhood. He first began playing the piano at age 4 and showed such early talent that, as a teenager, he was already composing music for local theater productions.

Hopkins, who forged his path as a composer entirely through self-study, has already earned recognition in classical music circles. In 2012, he won Album of the Year at the Classic BRIT Awards for 'And the Waltz Goes On,' recorded with the Johann Strauss Orchestra. In January last year, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra also performed his works at a gala concert for Riyadh Season at the Bakr Al-Sheddi Theater in Saudi Arabia, drawing worldwide attention.
