Coupang Play’s 〈An Affair Isn’t the Issue Right Now〉 ended last Friday. 〈An Affair Isn’t the Issue Right Now〉 is a black comedy that careens from one collision to the next in which a popular influencer couple—who have sold the image of a happy home—and their neighbors, a doctor couple embroiled in a messy divorce, become entangled in an unbearable secret that makes even an affair seem trivial. Cineplay reporter Kim Ji-yeon shares her review after binge-watching the series.

Kim Ji-yeon / ★★★★★ / A satire that captures everything from the tawdry thrills of an affair drama to the chilling pleasures of black comedy

An adult fairy tale that begins with Kim Hye-soo's "shit" and ends with "shit"—a rare case of all head and all tail, in the best sense. What stands out is the boldness of the writer-director-visual team in creating images rarely seen in K-dramas. Each episode is tightly woven, with every scene serving a purpose and preserving the show's organic flow. The obviously fake-looking sets and production design, together with meticulously calculated blocking and long takes and a theatrical rhythm, are in fact the stroke of genius that completes this bizarre story as an adult fairy tale.
