〈Mousetrap〉 breaks from the formula Netflix has leaned on in its recent series. While those series typically peel back one layer of mystery per episode to compel viewers to watch the next episode, 〈Mousetrap〉 does the opposite: it keeps adding layers of mystery as episodes progress. Its many overlapping mysteries do not fully resolve until episode 10, so the series demands patience from viewers. Its intriguing premise and timely themes are undercut by the repeated line "How do I explain that I am me?", which loses power through overuse. Ryu Jun-yeol excels at playing characters with an unsettling, hard-to-pin-down quality.
