■ A special day spent roasting marshmallows: “A joyful secret wedding with zero pressure”

According to an interview published by fashion magazine Vogue on the 30th (local time), Bush and Harris, who had been dating for three years, held an intimate, small family wedding in the summer of 2025 at a quiet location in upstate New York, with only their families in attendance and no extended relatives or friends.

Harris’ two children, daughter Sloane and son Ocean, were part of the special occasion. Recalling the day, Harris said, “The kids were able to run around freely, and Sloane was holding wildflowers she had picked from the yard. It was a completely joyful and fun day for everyone—not a grand, exhausting event, but one that didn’t put any pressure on the young children.” Bush added that the entire family sat together in the evening to roast marshmallows and bring the day to a close, calling it “one of the most precious moments of my life, something I’ll never forget, with absolutely no pressure.”

Rather than making a major announcement on social media or through the press after the wedding, the couple chose a more personal approach, traveling across the United States to visit cherished relatives and friends in person and share the happy news face to face. Bush expressed her overwhelming happiness, saying, “I’m genuinely happy that I can now call her not simply ‘my partner,’ but ‘my wife.’”

■ A memoir written over 10 years: “Every piece of my life has fallen into place”

The secret wedding came to light ahead of the Oct. 27 release of Bush’s first memoir, “And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress.”

Bush, who said she had turned down publishers’ offers for about 10 years, explained why she finally wrote the memoir: “Only when I felt that every piece of my life had finally found its perfect place did I feel ready to share my story with the world.”

According to an excerpt from the book released through Vogue, Bush confessed that after years of enduring the pain of having her private life dissected in the public eye, she wanted to keep marriage—the biggest milestone of her life—entirely between the two of them before making it public. After experiencing the pain of two divorces, from actor Chad Michael Murray (2005-2006) and businessman Grant Hughes (2022-2024), she wrote that watching the deep, decades-long love shared by Harris’ grandparents gave her the courage to build a family again and move through life with a partner.

■ LGBTQ rights advocacy: “We hope our visibility can give someone hope”

The couple, whose relationship first became the subject of speculation in October 2023, confirmed that they were in a committed relationship in a 2024 Glamour cover story interview, in which Bush publicly came out as queer.

The two now serve on the board of directors of the Human Rights Campaign, the largest LGBTQ rights organization in the United States, and are working to advance LGBTQ rights. Harris stressed the broader significance of their decision, saying, “Making this marriage public isn’t simply a source of pride for the two of us. We know how important it is to offer clear visibility as a same-sex couple to the many young people who feel lonely because they cannot show the world who they are.”

Having overcome their past pain and become each other’s perfect halves and steadfast wives, the couple has embarked on a new chapter, drawing heartfelt congratulations and support from fans around the world for their beautiful courage.
