A fresh pairing of a spirited mother starting life’s second act and her cynical daughter
KBS 2TV on the 13th unveiled the star-studded cast of its new weekend drama ‘I Went to School’, which is aiming for a first-half premiere next year. The human comedy follows an outspoken mother who dreams of starting life’s second act and takes on the challenge of attending college later in life. Along the way, she meets unexpected people and rediscovers the true meaning of family.
Acclaimed actor ‘Lee Jung-eun’ will lead the drama as Yoon Ok-hee, a spirited mother. Her character enters college later in life to take on a new challenge, giving Lee Jung-eun the opportunity to showcase her signature warmth and comic timing. ‘Choi Soo-young’ has been cast as Kang Eun-ho, Ok-hee’s daughter and a cynical radio producer. The two are expected to deliver a realistic, highly relatable mother-daughter dynamic.
The drama has also assembled a strong supporting cast. Veteran actor ‘Lee Sung-jae’ will play Kang Ji-cheol, a husband who acts before he speaks, bringing energy to the story. ‘Kang Seung-yoon’ of Winner will portray Kang Jun, a boastful but endearing son, and is expected to make the most of the comic supporting role. ‘Jeon Sung-woo’ has also joined the cast as Han Seung-woo, Kang Eun-ho’s longtime friend and the network’s star anchor, adding further depth to the drama.
The production team is equally impressive. ‘Yang Hee-seung’, the screenwriter behind numerous hit series including ‘Oh My Ghost’ and ‘Crash Course in Romance’, will write the script, while ‘Director Lee Woong-hee’, who directed ‘My Perfect Stranger’, will helm the project.
The drama is drawing particular attention because it marks the seventh collaboration between ‘Lee Jung-eun’ and ‘Yang Hee-seung’. The two have worked together on six projects, beginning with ‘High School King of Savvy’ in 2014 and continuing through ‘Oh My Ghost’, ‘Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo’, ‘Familiar Wife’, ‘Once Again’ and ‘Memories of 100’, which is scheduled to air next year. They also previously reunited for a special appearance in ‘The Secret Audit’, set for release in 2026. The industry will be watching to see how their deep trust and creative chemistry unfold in this weekend drama.
