VIP treatment behind bars ends after repeated disruptions
Music mogul 'Puff Daddy' (real name 'Sean Diddy Combs') was transferred to another prison after enjoying an extraordinary life of luxury behind bars, including having a personal chef and masseuse.
According to an NBC report on the 16th (local time), the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) officially confirmed that Combs had been transferred from FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, where he had been held, to FCI Allenwood in Pennsylvania. Both facilities are classified as low-security prisons. The Bureau of Prisons did not disclose the specific reason for the transfer, citing the inmate's privacy and security.
But Jose Rojas, a secretary for the correctional officers' union, said Combs' repeated disruptions—including two physical altercations inside the prison—were the decisive reason for the move. Combs' spokesperson responded, "We have not been given a clear reason for the transfer," adding, "He will serve the remainder of his sentence diligently and focus on the appeal process and communicating with his family and legal team."
The transfer came just two weeks after media reports exposed what was dubbed Combs' 'emperor-like' prison life. According to the reports, he smuggled in Hennessy, a premium cognac, and drank it, and secretly brought in a smartphone to use Instagram and Netflix.
More controversial still, he reportedly had people assigned inside the prison to handle cooking, cleaning the bathroom and doing laundry, and even received Chinese-style massages. Fellow inmates who provided these conveniences to Combs were reportedly paid from outside in the form of money deposited into their prison accounts. Combs had initially insisted on serving his sentence at FCI Fort Dix, citing the facility's excellent drug treatment program.
As the controversy spread, prison authorities immediately moved Combs from a general dormitory unit to the Special Housing Unit (SHU), a solitary confinement unit, and later made the abrupt decision to transfer him out of state. As part of the process, 41 days of good-time credit were revoked, pushing his expected release date from January 2028 to March of that year.
Combs, founder of hip-hop label Bad Boy Records, is serving a four-year-and-two-month sentence after being convicted of transporting victims across state lines for prostitution. He has been in prison since last October. He also faces serious allegations that he orchestrated the killing of legendary rapper Tupac (2Pac) 30 years ago, but prosecutors currently consider the evidence insufficient to bring additional charges.
