Roh Hee-kyung, Song Hye-kyo, Gong Yoo, Kim Seol-hyun and Cha Seung-won! Netflix Series “Tantara” Premieres Dec. 11!

The Netflix series 〈Tantara〉, which has been building anticipation with the pairing of acclaimed writer Roh Hee-kyung and director Lee Yoon-jung, along with a powerhouse cast featuring Song Hye-kyo, Gong Yoo, Kim Seol-hyun and Cha Seung-won, will premiere worldwide on Friday, Dec. 11.

The Netflix series 〈Tantara〉​ tells the coming-of-age story of people who had little but risked everything in pursuit of dazzling success, set in South Korea’s entertainment industry from the 1960s through the 1980s, when brutality and violence were rampant. “Min-ja” (Song Hye-kyo) endures a poor childhood in which she has to do whatever it takes to earn money, then enters the music industry. Her childhood friend “Dong-gu” (Gong Yoo) stays by her side and races alongside her in pursuit of her dream. “Min-hee” (Kim Seol-hyun), bold and determined to succeed on her own terms, becomes entangled with “Min-ja” in a love-hate relationship. And “Seok Gil-yeo” (Cha Seung-won) is the era’s top composer, known for turning even rookie singers into stars. Their story of overcoming hardships and adversity from the depths of life as they chase their own goals is set to resonate with viewers around the world.

The newly released premiere-date poster catches the eye with the characters’ lives unfolding like a panorama around a turntable. After a childhood marked by poverty but endured together, the now-grown “Min-ja” and “Dong-gu” take on a range of jobs, including waiting tables, and grow into rookie mochi (managers), prompting curiosity about what they have been through and what lies ahead. “Min-hee” sings with sparkling eyes, while “Seok Gil-yeo” plays the saxophone with all his might, hinting at the special chemistry the two will create through music. Also featured are “Yang-ja” (Lee Ha-nee), singing with a look that is both desperate and full of joy, and “Mal-soon” (Na Moon-hee), whose eyes hold the joys and sorrows of years gone by. Together, they heighten anticipation for the rich stories these very different characters will bring to life.
