‘Hong Kong Week 2025@Seoul’ opens on September 26 and will be held throughout Seoul until October 25 for a month. It consists of 14 programs including dance, music, film, comics, visual arts, and fashion, along with 65 performances and programs to introduce Hong Kong's arts and culture, and to expand the stage of communication through collaboration between Korean and Hong Kong artists. ‘Hong Kong Week’ is a representative cultural exchange event hosted by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, aimed at highlighting Hong Kong's diverse artistic world and strengthening cultural ties with mainland China and countries around the world. Since its inception in Shanghai in 2019, followed by Guangzhou, Wuhan, and Bangkok, ‘Hong Kong Week’ will be held for the first time in Seoul in 2025, showcasing Hong Kong's cultural charm and artistic diversity.

The Hong Kong Ballet, which is making its first visit since its founding, will present 〈Romeo+Juliet〉 (26-27) as the opening performance at the National Theater's Haeoreum Theater. This work, reinterpreted by Artistic Director Septime Weber against the backdrop of 1960s Hong Kong, completes a stage where East and West intersect by adding local colors such as Cheongsam and Kung Fu to Prokofiev's music. The dance program will be organized on a stage that transcends tradition and modernity. From September 30 to October 1 at Sungkyunkwan University's International Hall and on October 3-4 at the outdoor stage of Marronnier Park, the collaborative creation 'Collab Asia Project' will be performed in collaboration with the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Department of Dance at Sungkyunkwan University.

From October 17 to 19, the Arko Arts Theater's small theater will host the Korean version of the Guangdong traditional ritual modernly interpreted by Laborate Arts, 〈Pajiok〉, and on October 18-19, the National Gugak Center's Yeakdang will present the large-scale creative dance drama 〈24 Solar Terms〉 by the Hong Kong Dance Company. On October 24-25, the Gangdong Arts Center's Grand Theater will feature the experimental work 〈Mr. Blank 2.0〉 by the Hong Kong Contemporary Dance Company.

The exhibition program showcases various aspects of Hong Kong art for free. As a pre-program, the Seoul Arts Center's Calligraphy Museum has already opened the first solo exhibition in Korea of Chinese contemporary art master Wu Guanzhong, ‘Wu Guanzhong Art Sponsorship Overseas Exhibition Series: Wu Guanzhong: Between Black and White’ (July 25 - October 19), where visitors can encounter his ink paintings, oil paintings, and media works. At Starfield Hanam, the ‘Hong Kong Comic Culture Exhibition’ (September 27 - October 9) will be held.

The film program ranges from outdoor stages to art cinemas. On October 11, at Nanji Hangang Park, ‘Dream Garden: Concert and Film’ featuring Korean and Hong Kong artists will be held for free, with Jonathan Wong, Park Jung-hyun, and Sunwoo Jung-a filling the stage. That night, the film 〈Fairy Tale of Autumn〉 (1987) starring Chow Yun-fat and Gong Li will be screened for free against the backdrop of the Han River night view. Following that, the Korean Film Archive's Cinematheque KOFA will host a special exhibition ‘Emotional Journey - Hong Kong Films Crossing Borders’ (October 15-25), and Cinecube Gwanghwamun will present ‘Making Wave - The New Wave of Hong Kong Cinema’ (October 17-20). Notably, the original 〈A Better Tomorrow〉 (1986) will be screened for the first time in the world in a 4K restored version.
