'Shin Sung-il Memorial Hall' Opening Ceremony on November 21, Featuring Videos from Eom Aeng-ran, Shin Young-kyun, Lee Jung-jae, and Yeom Hye-ran!

A complex cultural space that revives the art and life of the late Shin Sung-il, incorporating advanced AI-based immersive media art systems. The 'Andre Kim Special Restoration Exhibition' will also be unveiled during the opening ceremony.

 

'Shin Sung-il Memorial Hall' will open. It will open its doors on November 21 in Yeongcheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do. This complex cultural space revives the art and life of the late Shin Sung-il, a symbol of Korean cinema, and incorporates advanced AI-based immersive media art systems. The 'Andre Kim Special Restoration Exhibition' will also be unveiled during the opening ceremony.

 

Shin Sung-il represents the golden age of Korean cinema in the 1960s. He appeared in over 500 works and was celebrated as a symbol of Korean film and popular culture. This memorial hall was established to preserve his artistic spirit and life as a cultural asset connecting generations. It boasts a total area of 1,151㎡ on a site of 9,946㎡ in Gwaeyeon-dong, Yeongcheon.

 

The exterior features a curved structure that embodies the curves and light of film, while the interior is designed to maximize cinematic immersion with exhibition pathways. The first floor includes an immersive video hall showcasing the representative works and acting career of actor Shin Sung-il, while the second floor features a story-based permanent exhibition hall displaying actual costumes, props, and memorabilia. It also includes an experience zone and an outdoor photo zone. This setup allows visitors to feel the flow of Korean cinema history from the 1960s to the 70s and the essence of cultural arts of that time. Notably, an advanced AI-based immersive media art system has been introduced, allowing visitors to experience becoming the protagonists of films.

 

The opening ceremony will be attended by family members Eom Aeng-ran, Kang Seok-hyun, and Kang Seok-ho, as well as Choi Gi-moon, the mayor of Yeongcheon, Kim Seon-tae, the chairperson of the Yeongcheon City Council, and Kim Dong-ho, co-chair of the 'Shin Sung-il Memorial Hall Construction Film Committee', along with Jeong Ji-young, co-chair, Han Sang-jun, chairman of the Korean Film Council, Kim Byeong-jae, chairman of the Film Rating Committee, Choi Yong-bae, director of the Korean National University of Arts, Lee Eun, president of the Korean Film Producers Association, Lee Dong-ha, representative of the Korean Producers Association, Kim Seon-a, representative of the Women Filmmakers Association, Yoon Je-kyun, representative of the Directors Guild, and actors Lee Hae-ryong, Han Ji-il, and Lee Hye-young, among many others from the film industry.

 

During the opening ceremony of this memorial hall, there will be a screening of actor Shin Sung-il's representative works, a venue for local filmmakers to exchange ideas, and a memorial concert. The 'Andre Kim Special Restoration Exhibition' will also be held. Kim Jung-do, the son of Andre Kim, will refurbish and exhibit the costumes of the couple Shin Sung-il and Eom Aeng-ran that his father created during his lifetime, free of charge. This includes the wedding dress worn during their wedding in 1964 and official event attire. Kim stated, "These costumes are a legacy imbued with the artistic spirit of my father and Mr. Shin Sung-il, and the restoration is not just a simple recovery but a way to pass on their artistic spirit to the next generation."

 

Through this memorial hall, Yeongcheon plans to develop the area, which is the hometown of Shin Sung-il and the root of his artistic activities, into a holy land of Korean cinema. Mayor Choi Gi-moon stated, "The Shin Sung-il Memorial Hall will become a model of a new exhibition culture where art and technology converge," and added, "With the opening of this memorial hall, I will spare no administrative support to help Yeongcheon leap forward as a film cultural city."

 

Kang Seok-hyun, the son of Shin Sung-il, expressed, "I hope that my father's memorial hall will become a cultural and artistic space that inspires the younger generation, beyond just a place to reminisce about the past," and added, "With the exhibition of works by Andre Kim, we will be able to feel the golden age of Korean cinema and fashion once again."

 

Shin Sung-il, a symbol of Korean cinema and an icon of the era. His life and art will now be revived in a new complex cultural space where technology, art, and memory coexist. Beyond 60 years of time and generations, the immortal beauty imbued with the spirit of Korean culture and arts is expected to shine even brighter through the 'Shin Sung-il Memorial Hall'. The 'Shin Sung-il Memorial Hall Film Committee' plans to promote the 'Shin Sung-il Memorial Project' in this regard.
