Musical 'Billy Elliot' to Reopen After 5 Years on April 12, 2026... Starring Choi Jung-won and Park Jeong-ja

The production company Shinsegae Company announced on the 9th that the musical 〈Billy Elliot〉 will open on April 12, 2026, at the Blue Square Shinhan Card Hall in Seoul after a 5-year reorganization.

〈Billy Elliot〉 is set against the backdrop of the major miners' strike in Northern England from 1984 to 1985, depicting the growth journey of a boy named 'Billy' who accidentally discovers ballet. It was produced based on the 2000 film of the same name and achieved the remarkable feat of winning 10 awards, including Best Musical, at the 2009 Tony Awards in the United States. In Korea, it has been performed three times since its premiere in 2010, receiving love from audiences in 2017 and 2021.

A notable feature of this work is the systematic child actor training system called 'Billy School'. 'Billy School' is a program that directly teaches child actors dance and singing, selecting and nurturing candidates for the roles. In fact, ballet dancer Jeon Min-cheol also auditioned for the lead role during the 2017 performance.

In this season returning after 5 years, Kim Seung-joo, who has performed in musicals 〈Matilda〉, 〈Les Misérables〉, and 〈Frankenstein〉, along with Park Ji-hoo, Kim Woo-jin, and Jo Yoon-woo, will take on the lead role of Billy.

The role of Billy's friend Michael will be played by Lee Seo-jun, Lee Ru-ri, Kim Hyo-bin, and Ji Yoon-ho.

The role of Mrs. Wilkinson, who discovers and guides the protagonist's talent, will be played by actors Choi Jung-won and Jeon Su-mi, while the protagonist's father will be portrayed by Jo Jeong-geun and Choi Dong-won. Veteran actors Park Jeong-ja, Min Gyeong-ok, and Hong Yoon-hee will appear as Billy's grandmother.

In particular, this season is significant as ballet dancer Im Seon-woo, who played the lead role during the domestic premiere in 2010, rejoins as 'Adult Billy'.

The performance will run until July 26, 2026.
