"Instead of the Force, Schwartz has awakened again." The legendary sci-fi parody film 'Spaceballs' that made the world laugh by twisting 'Star Wars' in 1987 has finally completed filming its sequel. The 99-year-old master Mel Brooks may not have been on set, but his sense of humor remains intact.
On the 15th (local time), actor Lewis Pullman officially confirmed that filming for the movie 'Spaceballs 2' has just wrapped up during an appearance on ABC talk show 'The View'.
◆ 99-Year-Old Director's 'Remote Command'
The biggest concern regarding this sequel was whether the original director and comedy legend Mel Brooks would be involved. Lewis Pullman stated, "Mel Brooks did not come to the set. He has now become a 'homebody'." However, his influence was absolute.
Pullman expressed his respect, saying, "His spirit was on set, he participated in the design, and he got us started," adding, "I want to frame the voice memo he sent me when he offered me the role." Mel Brooks is expected to lend his voice again to the wise character 'Yogurt' in the film.
◆ Dancing in His Father's Shoes
This film is also notable for the meeting of Hollywood's representative father-son actors. Lewis Pullman plays the role of 'Starburst', teaming up with his real father Bill Pullman, who returns as the original protagonist 'Lonestar'.
Lewis recalled, "One of the movies my father showed me when I was young was 'Spaceballs'. At that time, I thought, 'Why did they remake Spaceballs without jokes?'" He continued, "I have to fill the big shoes (achievements) my father has left behind, but fortunately, my father is wearing those shoes, so I will dance in a different pair of shoes beside him," sharing his witty thoughts.
◆ Rick Moranis' Return, and 2027
The news that excites fans the most is the return of Rick Moranis. After a long hiatus, he is returning as the iconic villain 'Dark Helmet'. Additionally, a star-studded cast including Josh Gad and Keke Palmer has joined the project.
Directed by Josh Greenbaum and produced by Ron Howard, 'Spaceballs 2' aims for a theatrical release in 2027, when Mel Brooks will turn 101.
