Actor Ahn Sung-ki, Cardiac Arrest Due to Airway Obstruction... Currently Undergoing Treatment in Intensive Care Unit

Actor Ahn Sung-ki (73) is receiving treatment in the intensive care unit due to acute cardiac arrest. According to a statement from his agency, Artist Company, on December 31, it was confirmed that Ahn collapsed at around 4 PM on the 30th while eating at home due to airway obstruction.

Ahn was urgently transported to a nearby hospital's emergency room while receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and he is currently undergoing intensive treatment in the intensive care unit. Medical staff are closely monitoring the patient's condition and providing the best possible care.

The agency stated in an official statement, "The actor has been transported to the hospital due to a sudden deterioration in health and is receiving treatment under the care of medical staff," adding, "The exact health status and future prognosis are being confirmed based on the professional judgment of the medical staff."

They further requested, "We earnestly ask for your consideration for the stability of the actor and his family."

Ahn Sung-ki debuted in 1957 with director Kim Ki-young's film 〈Twilight Train〉 and has established himself as a national actor representing the Korean film industry by appearing in over 140 works over 60 years. He has received public love through significant works such as 〈No Mercy for the Rude〉, 〈Two Cops〉, 〈Radio Star〉, and 〈Silmido〉.

He began his acting career by winning the Best New Actor award at the Daejong Film Awards in 1980 for 〈A Good Day to Wind〉 and has received over 40 Best Actor and acting awards at major domestic film festivals, recognizing his acting skills.

Ahn has been diagnosed with blood cancer since 2019 and has been undergoing treatment, publicly revealing his illness for the first time in a media interview in 2022. Despite his illness, he has shown his will to recover by attending events such as the opening ceremony of the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival and the 4·19 Democracy Peace Prize ceremony in 2023.
