Hungarian film master Bela Tarr passed away on the 6th (local time) at the age of 70.

Director Tarr is known for his unique techniques such as long takes, casting ordinary people, and black-and-white screens. His representative work 'Sátántangó' (1994) is regarded as a 7-hour epic dealing with the regression after the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe.

He visited the Busan International Film Festival in 2014 and collaborated on several works with Nobel Prize-winning author Laszlo Krasznahorkai. He criticized the far-right regime in Hungary and engaged in human rights advocacy.
