MBC announced on the 9th that it will air a memorial special documentary titled 〈National Actor, Ahn Seong-ki〉 reflecting on the 69-year acting career of national actor Ahn Seong-ki on the 11th at 11:10 PM.
This documentary records the life of Ahn Seong-ki, who has lived as 'the history of Korean cinema' and 'the face of the era', along with the last traces he left behind. It features interviews with junior actors such as Im Ji-sook, Lee Bo-hee, Park Cheol-min, Kim Sang-kyung, and Seo Hyun-jin, as well as filmmakers including Im Kwon-taek, Lee Jang-ho, Bae Chang-ho, and Lee Myung-se, shedding light on the late actor's life from various angles.
In particular, Koo Bon-chang, a photographer who has been connected with the late actor for over 40 years, stated, "Upon receiving a call from the bereaved family that they had not prepared a portrait, I provided the photo that his wife loved the most to accompany him on his final journey."
The documentary will also capture Ahn Seong-ki's last moments, who never let go of his responsibility towards acting even while battling illness. Anecdotes about how he maintained his smile, saying, "I feel much better," will be conveyed through the voices of those close to him.
The documentary highlights not only his life as an actor but also his quiet philanthropy and social role as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador outside the screen. His life of sharing, practiced quietly behind the glamorous spotlight, will be re-examined.
The narration is done by actor Byun Yo-han. Byun Yo-han, who formed a connection with Ahn Seong-ki through the film 〈Hansan〉, speaks of the late actor with a calm voice filled with respect and condolences.
