Singer BoA will end her exclusive contract with the agency SM Entertainment, which she has been with since her debut.
On the 12th, SM Entertainment announced through an official statement that they have reached a final agreement to conclude their 25-year partnership with BoA as of December 31 of last year. They continued, "BoA has been a source of pride, a symbol, and a true representation of SM for 25 years," they stated.
Debuting at the age of 14 in 2000, BoA established herself as a leading artist of SM Entertainment and made a significant mark in K-Pop history.
With hit songs like 'No.1', 'Atlantis Princess', and 'Only One', BoA has received love from fans both domestically and internationally, achieving remarkable success particularly in the Japanese market. She became the first Korean artist to have two albums certified million-sellers on the Oricon chart, gaining explosive popularity locally.
SM Entertainment evaluated BoA as "an icon of overseas expansion who pioneered the Korean Wave across Asia and has received continuous love from global music fans as 'the Star of Asia' even beyond her 25th debut anniversary."
They added, "BoA has become a role model for many junior artists leading the K-Pop craze, and we support her as she continues to shine as 'the Star of Asia' while fully demonstrating her capabilities in new activities and challenges."
BoA's departure from SM Entertainment is drawing attention in the industry as it signals a new beginning for a first-generation K-Pop star.
