Shim Eun-kyung, who has captivated both Korea and Japan, is taking on the Korean theater stage for the first time.
On February 19, Shim Eun-kyung's agency announced that she will be appearing in the play 'Banya Ajae'. 'Banya Ajae' is a reinterpretation of Anton Chekhov's masterpiece 「Uncle Vanya」 tailored to Korean sentiment, with Shim Eun-kyung taking the stage as Seo Eun-hee, the character corresponding to Sonya in the original work. Recently, Shim Eun-kyung won the Best Actress award at the 99th Kinema Junpo for her role in 〈Travel and Days〉, and she is now challenging her first stage acting in Korea through this play.
This production presented by the National Theater Company features not only Shim Eun-kyung but also prominent figures in the Korean acting scene such as Jo Sung-ha, Son Suk, Nam Myung-ryeol, Ki Joo-bong, and Jeong Gyeong-soon, promising a more sophisticated stage. Shim Eun-kyung expressed her feelings about preparing for the work through her agency, stating, "Every time I approach a new project, acting still feels like a difficult and new assignment. I am excited to be able to feel the breath of the audience directly in the space of the stage, while also feeling a heavy sense of responsibility."
'Banya Ajae' will be performed from May 22 to 31.
