A special collaboration between a Japanese film and a K-pop artist has been realized.
The film 〈5 Centimeters per Second〉 is set to be released in Korea on February 25, and it has announced a special collaboration with Seongho, a member of the group BOYNEXTDOOR, stirring the emotions of prospective audiences. This collaboration is particularly meaningful as it is a remake of the iconic insert song 'One more time, One more chance,' which runs through both the original animation and the live-action film. If the original song by Masayoshi Yamazaki represented the poignant emotions of the 90s, the 2026 version, reborn in Seongho's voice, will capture the memories of first love in the language of today's youth.
Seongho, who has shown outstanding vocal abilities with a clear and warm tone within the team, will present a deeper emotional expression through this remake. Since he needs to convey the longing of Takaki and Akari, who move forward at different speeds while holding onto childhood memories, Seongho's unique delicate expressiveness and solid vocals are expected to harmonize perfectly with the landscapes in the film. His voice, which was slightly unveiled in the previously released teaser video, naturally blends into the film's mise-en-scène with cherry blossom petals fluttering, hinting at a new emotion colored by Seongho's unique style. This song, infused with Seongho's warmth over the lyrical melody of the original, is expected to leave a lasting impression on the audience as they exit the theater.
The film 〈5 Centimeters per Second〉 is the first project among Makoto Shinkai's works to be adapted into live-action, having proven both popularity and artistic value by attracting 1.6 million viewers during its release in Japan.
Seongho's remake will be simultaneously released worldwide on various music streaming sites at 6 PM on the film's release date, February 25.
