Makoto Shinkai's animation has been transformed into a live-action film.
On the 26th, the importing company Media Castle announced that the live-action film 〈5 Centimeters per Second〉, based on the legendary animation by director Makoto Shinkai, is confirmed to be released in Korea on February 25, and revealed an emotionally rich main poster and trailer.
The newly released main poster leaves a deep impression with the intersecting gazes of the adult 'Takaki' (Hokuto Matsumura) and 'Akari' (Mitsuki Takahata). The main trailer, which was also released, overwhelms the viewer with its visual beauty that perfectly recreates the iconic scenes from the original work. The video begins with Takaki's calm monologue, interweaving the promise made under the cherry tree in childhood to "meet again when we grow up" with the current life of living in a desolate city, bound by that promise, enhancing the immersion.
A particularly noteworthy aspect of this live-action film is the expansion of the narrative. In addition to the characters 'Risa' and 'Midori' from the original work, new characters unique to the live-action version have been added, enriching the emotional texture. Additionally, the OST '1991' featuring J-POP icon Kenshi Yonezu is expected to resonate with not only the mature fans of the original work but also the young audience experiencing this story for the first time.
Directed by the promising Yoshiyuki Okuyama, 〈5 Centimeters per Second〉 stars Hokuto Matsumura and Mitsuki Takahata and is set to be released in Korean theaters on February 25.
