The ambitious project of the production company HAAP, which leads a new revival of domestic original plays, ‘2026 HAAP PROJECT’ finally turns its first page. The play 〈Mourning My Death〉, which deeply illuminates the different ways siblings grieve in the confined space of a funeral, opens today (24th) at the Daehakro TOM.
A Powerful Start to the ‘2026 HAAP PROJECT’… Approaching the Essence of Original Plays
The play 〈Mourning My Death〉 is the first runner of the project prepared by HAAP for the development of domestic original scripts, generating great expectations even before its opening with the participation of trusted actors from Daehakro. The work poses a question about the 'true comfort' needed in our era through the different ways a brother and sister handle their grief after their mother's sudden death.
Cold Sister vs. Hot Brother… Grief at Different Temperatures
The work intimately captures the psychological contrast between the sister ‘Eojin’, who suppresses her emotions and takes responsibility for the realistic funeral procedures, and the brother ‘Do-jin’, who expresses the pain of loss with his whole being. Gong Min-jung and Kang Yeon-jung play the role of Eojin, demonstrating that enduring sadness is also part of the grieving process, showcasing a cold and heavy inner performance. Ryu Se-il and Kim Chang-il take on the role of Do-jin, struggling to engrave the loss in their memories while passionately unleashing a whirlwind of emotions that will resonate with the audience. The ensemble of these four talented actors is expected to evoke deep empathy by touching on the moments of parting that everyone will experience in their own way.
Park Joo-young, Noticed by the Dong-A Theater Awards… Transforming the Space of Loss into a Tunnel of Life
The fact that Park Joo-young, who won the Best New Director Award at the 60th Dong-A Theater Awards and is rapidly rising as a next-generation director, is simultaneously responsible for the script and direction adds to the trust. Park Joo-young's unique delicate perspective expands the physical space of the funeral into a 'tunnel of loss' that leads to life beyond sorrow, completing a dense stage.
The production company HAAP stated, "This work focuses not just on a sad story, but on how to walk back into life after loss," expressing confidence in its quality.
Opening today (24th) and welcoming audiences at Daehakro TOM until March 22, the play 〈Mourning My Death〉 is available for reservation through Nolticket and Yes24.
