Director Peter Jackson Receives Honorary Palme d'Or at the 79th Cannes Film Festival

New Zealand master director Peter Jackson, known for directing the 〈The Lord Of The Rings〉 series, has been selected as the recipient of this year's Honorary Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Cannes Film Festival announced on the 5th (local time) through its official website that Peter Jackson has been chosen as the recipient of the Honorary Palme d'Or for the 79th festival. The award ceremony will take place at the opening ceremony on May 12.

The Cannes Film Festival explained the selection background as "recognition of an artistic vision and technical boldness that encompasses both Hollywood blockbusters and auteur films."

He first stepped into the Cannes Film Festival film market with his debut film 〈Bad Taste〉 in 1987, and in 2001, he premiered some scenes from 〈The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Rings〉 at Cannes before its official release.

Since then, he has completed a total of three films in the series, including 〈The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers〉 (2002) and 〈The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King〉 (2003), making a significant mark in the history of world cinema. He also directed the prequel trilogy 〈The Hobbit〉, which is set in the era before The Lord of the Rings, and has left behind various works in different genres, including 〈King Kong〉 (2005) and 〈The Lovely Bones〉 (2010).
