‘Commotion’ (Working Title) Byun Yo-han, Esom, Kim Jun-han, and Kim Jong-soo Confirmed for Casting and Production Begins Immediately!

A new crime thriller being announced for the 2027 theater season, the film 〈Commotion〉 (working title) has confirmed the casting of Yo-han Byun, Esom, Jun-han Kim, and Jong-soo Kim, and is scheduled to kick off production in April. The film 〈Commotion〉 (working title; hereafter 〈Commotion〉) tells the story of the growing turmoil that follows the death of the head of the Ye-dong Gwon family, whose patriarchal line has maintained a risky illegal enterprise for generations, as family members fight over who will become the next successor.

Yo-han Byun takes on the role of Park Ki-tae, a character who has been handling the family’s menial tasks for years. When Gwon Do-young’s father (Jun-han Kim), who grew up side by side with Park Ki-tae, passes away, Park Ki-tae steps forward to ensure that Gwon Do-young can inherit the successor position. Byun’s acting—honed through his distinctive presence across a wide range of works—is set to bring Park Ki-tae to life as an irresistibly compelling character.

Esom plays Gwon So-hyeon, the eldest daughter who separates from the family to live independently in Seoul because she’s fed up with the dangerous family business. After returning years later, she finds herself caught in the newly changed atmosphere of the Gwon family—and the unpredictable power struggle over who will become the next successor. Having handled a wide range of genres and faces, Esom in 〈Commotion〉 will deliver a solid performance that fits the eldest daughter of a prominent household.

Jun-han Kim plays Gwon Do-young, the head of the Ye-dong Gwon family. After his father dies, he should naturally take over the business, but because his abilities aren’t recognized, he’s met with suspicion from the older figures in the family. Leaning on his friend Park Ki-tae (Yo-han Byun) and his younger sister Gwon So-hyeon (Esom), he is also a person whose inner ambition—to become a businessman—flickers beneath the surface. Kim Jun-han will shape the character in his own unique style.

Finally, Jong-soo Kim joins as Gwon Byung-ryeol, the “younger uncle” who covets the successor position and shows charisma that threatens his nephews. With his solid acting craft, Kim Jong-soo will add even more tension to 〈Commotion〉.

〈Commotion〉 is the latest work from Star Platinum (CEO Han Hee-seong), a production company that won public acclaim with Netflix film 〈Good News〉. It marks director Kim Seon-gyeong’s first commercial feature debut, as she takes charge of both the screenplay and direction. Through this project, Director Kim Seon-gyeong will dig relentlessly into the traditional patriarchal order and the power structure within the family, portraying the tensions and fractures between characters with meticulous detail. In addition, Director Byun Seong-hyeon of 〈Good News〉 and 〈The Bad Guys: Reign of Chaos〉 participates as a co-writer, further heightening the genre tension and building a highly polished script. Meanwhile, 〈Commotion〉, which successfully completed the reading stage, immediately kicked off production with tight tension from the very first breath and a high level of immersion. Delivering a new set of cases and entertainment for a family business entangled in crime, the film 〈Commotion〉 is scheduled for release in 2027 after filming.
