A prequel focused on Gladys from the film 〈Weapons〉 is set to be produced.
U.S. media outlet 'Deadline' reported on April 1 (local time) that work on the prequel screenplay for the film 〈Weapons〉 has officially begun. 〈Weapons〉 is a film about the story of 17 children who disappeared one day at exactly 2:17, and the townspeople who set out to find them. It was released in fall 2025. Not only did the film generate profits more than seven times its production budget, but it also made headlines because Amy Madigan, who plays Gladys, won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

It is known that the 〈Weapons〉 prequel currently in production will cover Gladys’s past. That’s because the project is already known by the name 'Gladys.' Screenwriting for 'Gladys' began with Zack Cregger, who handled the direction and screenplay for the previous installment, and Jack Sherrill, who wrote the script for 〈Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire〉. In addition, Roy Lee, the producer of the previous film, will be returning as a producer, along with Yoon Dooyoon.
Right now, director Zack Cregger is working on the post-production for the 'Resident Evil' reboot scheduled for release in September 2026. After this film is released, he is expected to move into 'Gladys' production in earnest.
