Popular Naver Webtoon “Yumi’s Cells” by writer Lee Dong-geon, which has racked up 3.5 billion cumulative views worldwide, meets audiences on stage in the form of a musical.

Producer Sam Company and Studio N announced on the 3rd that their musical 〈Yumi’s Cells〉 will premiere at the CJ Towol Theater at the Seoul Arts Center in Seocho-gu from June 30 to August 23. The show is a creative musical that reconstitutes the original’s story—where the everyday life and love of an ordinary office worker, Yumi, are portrayed through the perspectives of cells inside her—into stage language.

Tiffany Young and Kim Ye-won have been cast as the lead character “Yumi.” For the role of the new mysterious cell “109,” which does not appear in the original, Jung Taek-woon (Leo) and Jung Jin-woon—who is taking on his first musical with this production—have been set in a double cast. As “Love,” the cell that regulates Yumi’s emotions, Kim So-hyang and Yoo Ria will appear, putting on a distinctive performance.

The production team’s lineup is also solid. Director Yang Jeong-ung, who served as the general director of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics opening ceremony and as artistic director for the 2025 APEC Summit, will direct and deliver a dynamic stage. In addition, talented creative staff including composer Choi Jae-kwang, writer Kim Ga-ram, and music director Kim Seong-soo will join in to complete the production’s signature dazzling performances and highly addictive numbers.

The official poster features world-renowned visual artist Yoshida Uni. With a poster for the play 〈Macbeth〉 that won the Gold Prize at the 2024 Clio Awards, he created the visuals without using CG—by implementing the visual effects using only the placement of objects. Using a blue heart object to embody Yumi’s inner cells, and highlighting with heart-shaped pink lips, he captured the identity of the work.

This performance is Studio N, Naver Webtoon’s subsidiary, and its first musical challenge—following the success of webtoon-based video content such as 〈Sweet Home〉, 〈Jeongnyeoni〉, and 〈Zombie Daughter〉—and it brings together Sam Company’s production know-how and expectations.

The musical 〈Yumi’s Cells〉 is preparing for the first ticket sales later this month (April) at the end of the month.
