The identity of the Korea-Japan joint production created by Sang-ho Yeon is finally revealed—“Gas Man” teaser preview and poster unveiled!

During a live TV broadcast, a horrifying murder shocks the world: a person’s body suddenly swells and explodes.

Netflix will exclusively release its Netflix series 〈Gas Man〉 worldwide on Thursday, July 2, 2026. Director Sang-ho Yeon, who has consistently delivered global hit titles such as the film 〈Train to Busan〉 and the Netflix series 〈Kingdom〉 〈Parasite: The Grey〉 and more, serves as executive producer and screenwriter. Directing is Shinjo Katayama, who has masterfully portrayed the darkness within the human psyche through the streaming series 〈Gannibal〉 and the film 〈Sisters on the Brink〉 〈Missing〉. At last, an unprecedented combination of top-tier creators from Korea and Japan is brought to life.

During a live TV broadcast, a shocking murder case grips the world—one person’s body suddenly swells and explodes. The culprit was 〈Gas Man〉, who could freely convert his own body into gas and pass through any obstacle. As he continues a string of predicted murders, slipping away as if mocking the police cordon, an amorphous terror gradually seeps into society.

For the role of Gas Man, newcomer UTA has been chosen—announcing her acting debut through this production. Under the production team’s criteria of searching for an “actor with no preconceived notions,” he was ultimately selected, and is expected to draw viewers into a maelstrom of fear and excitement with his mysterious chilling presence and overwhelming aura.

The characters surrounding Gas Man are also worth watching. Shun Oguri and Yuu Aoi—who have long stood at the pinnacle of the Japanese film industry—will co-star for the first time in 23 years in live-action works, portraying detective Okamoto Kenji and reporter Kono Kyoko, adding a weighty presence to the story. In the roles of the streaming creator siblings, Suzu Hirose and Kento Hayashi join in, and Yutaka Takenouchi takes on the role of the corporate president who hails from the yakuza, completing an ensemble you won’t be able to take your eyes off.

This work is an original reboot series—completely reimagined from a modern perspective by the hands of Korea-Japan’s top-tier creators—based on 〈Gas Man No. 1〉 (Director: Isiro Honda / Screenplay: Takeshi Kimura), the legendary special-effects film from Toho that was first released in 1960. Toho, which led the planning and production; Wowpoint (WOWPOINT), which co-planned and co-produced; and Netflix—three entities that drive entertainment across Korea, Japan, and the globe—have united to bring an unprecedented-scale project to fruition. The golden milestone of a special-effects film transcends more than half a century and is reborn as an unprecedented shocker that overwhelms the world.

What the production team poured the most effort into is “real,” not “fantasy.” With 〈Godzilla Minus One〉, they combine the world-class technology of the VFX team Shirogumi (白組), which won an Academy Award for Visual Effects for the first time in Japanese film history, with an overwhelming scale symbolized by large-scale action involving countless “ka.” A new level of visual experience that goes far beyond the grammar of existing Japanese dramas is now being unveiled to the world.
