〈Colony〉 director Yeon Sang-ho, who directed the film, shared a casting anecdote involving Gu Kyo-hwan.
During an on-site roundtable interview in a location in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on May 26, director Yeon Sang-ho talked about Gu Kyo-hwan, the actor with whom he has already collaborated for a fourth time.
He said Gu Kyo-hwan is “an actor who fits extraordinary roles well.” He added, “It’s not that the actor’s expression makes that happen. It’s that his inner attitude gives off a sense of extraordinariness,” and explained why he selected Gu Kyo-hwan for the role of Seo Young-cheol in this film. Yeon also added that as a film fan, Gu Kyo-hwan tends to watch B-movies that many people don’t see, which makes communication easier.
He also said, “I’m personally close with Gu Kyo-hwan actor. When we were filming 〈Parasite: The Grey〉, he became a parasite and wanted to have abilities, but he seemed disappointed. So I told him I would give him a role with abilities next time,” and “that was 〈Colony〉.”
Released on May 22, 〈Colony〉 tells the story of Kwon Se-jung (Jeon Ji-hyun), who gets caught up in a terror incident sparked by genius biologist Seo Young-cheol, and the survivors.
