Matt Damon will visit South Korea with Charlize Theron, and 〈Odyssey〉 will be in theaters on August 5.

This summer’s hotly anticipated title that audiences around the world have been waiting for, 〈Odyssey〉, has confirmed Christopher Nolan’s visit to South Korea along with cast members Matt Damon and Charlize Theron. Above all, the trip carries special meaning because it will mark Christopher Nolan’s first visit to South Korea—something Korean film fans have been eagerly looking forward to.

With 〈Interstellar〉, 〈Dunkirk〉, 〈Tenet〉, and 〈Oppenheimer〉 all drawing more than 36 million viewers in South Korea alone, Nolan has even been dubbed “the country of Nolan,” reflecting the depth of Korean fans’ love for him. Because this is a visit fans have long hoped for, Nolan has also sent a handwritten letter directly to Korean fans to announce his visit ahead of his first trip. The letter includes heartfelt words such as, “I’m grateful for the love and support that Korean fans have shown me all this time. I’m even more delighted to be able to come to Seoul through 〈Odyssey〉, and I’m truly happy that I can meet you directly and present this film to you,” raising expectations even further by conveying the sincerity of his feelings toward fans.

In particular, according to people involved, this South Korea visit was carried out at Nolan’s direct request—despite his efforts to push for a visit to South Korea multiple times in the past that had fallen through. 〈Odyssey〉 is said to have been fine-tuned through several schedules, with the goal of meeting fans in South Korea and introducing the film to them, which further heightens the significance of this trip.

Joining the confirmed lineup, Matt Damon as “Odysseus” and Charlize Theron as “Calypso” have also sealed their South Korea visits, completing an all-time top-tier roster. Matt Damon’s appearance marks his first visit to South Korea in 10 years since 〈Jason Bourne〉 in 2016, adding to the excitement, while Charlize Theron will make her first official visit to South Korea for film promotion, sharing a meaningful meeting with local fans. During their stay, Christopher Nolan, Matt Damon, and Charlize Theron plan to spend special time with fans through a variety of official events, including a press conference and a red-carpet appearance.
