The master Christopher Nolan, who conquered the Academy with 'Oppenheimer', has now turned his eyes to ancient Greece. His ambitious work 'The Odyssey' has released its first trailer with overwhelming visuals, rising as the most anticipated film of 2026.

On the 23rd (Korean time), Universal Pictures simultaneously released the 2-minute first trailer of 'The Odyssey' worldwide on the 22nd. Based on Homer's epic, this film depicts Odysseus's perilous journey home over 10 years after the Trojan War.

◆ "This is the modern myth"... Filmed 100% in IMAX

The released trailer captures Odysseus's journey through the majestic interior of the Trojan Horse, rough seas, and mysterious caves with breathtaking scale. In an interview with Empire, Nolan stated, "I wanted to realize a mythological story like Ray Harryhausen's classic masterpieces with modern budgets and technology." To achieve this, he took the unprecedented step of filming the entire runtime with IMAX film cameras. The length of the 70mm film used for filming amounts to 610 km (2 million feet).

The protagonist Odysseus is played by Nolan's persona Matt Damon, while his wife Penelope is portrayed by Anne Hathaway. Additionally, top Hollywood stars including Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron are all participating, reminiscent of a 'war of the stars'.

◆ Production cost of 350 billion... The box office storm has already begun

This project, with a total production cost of 250 million dollars (approximately 350 billion won), was filmed over 91 days across five countries including Morocco, Greece, and Iceland. Anticipation is already being proven by numbers. Last summer, pre-sale tickets opened in some IMAX theaters and were sold out in an instant, totaling 25,000 tickets.
