“Looks like a museum exhibition” — BamingTiger’s “Study” grabs No. 2 on Billboard’s K-pop chart

BamingTiger proves the evolution of K-pop, stunning the global music press with an original narrative

The regular second album of the alternative K-pop group ‘BamingTiger’, ‘Study’ (Gongbu), took the spotlight by landing at No. 2 on ‘Billboard’’s list of the “best K-pop albums of the first half of 2026.”

According to CAM, the label, which announced it on the 23rd, Billboard offered an unusual compliment for this album, saying it is “a masterpiece closer to a video art exhibition hall at a ‘modern art museum’ than a K-pop stage.” In this way, ‘bold experiments’ that cut across the boundaries of an array of genres — including folk, alternative pop, punk, rock, dance pop, and hip-hop — while fully capturing distinctly Korean sentiments, have hit the mark perfectly with the global music market.

Unveiled in May, ‘Study’ explores the depths of human dreams and the unconscious mind by making the fictional research institute ‘Study Korea’ its world. Breaking away from formulaic idol-music conventions, the work previously earned recognition on ‘NPR’, the U.S. public broadcaster, as one of the “best albums of the first half of 2026,” and then went on to win over Billboard’s music press as well, proving an overwhelming ‘artistic merit’.

Benefiting from intense attention from overseas media thanks to its distinctive artistry, ‘BamingTiger’ is continuing its momentum of securing both popular appeal and musicality after successfully wrapping up its ‘solo concert’ in Seoul’s Blue Square in June.
