“Jennie”’s magic lands at the top of Billboard, fueled by short-form video

The synergy unleashed by “Jennie” of the group BLACKPINK and “Tame Impala”, the psychedelic-pop master from Australia, has exploded. Their collaboration track “Dracula” jumped straight to No. 5 on the U.S. Billboard main singles chart “Hot 100”, breaking their own best record. According to the latest chart as of the 14th (local time), it rose three spots from the previous week. Behind this unstoppable reverse run is the short-form platform. Released to the world last October as Tame Impala’s solo song, the track was remade into a remix version that added Jennie’s unmistakable vocals this February, capturing the ears of music fans worldwide.

The onslaught from artists under the HYBE label is just as fierce. The mega-project song “Iconic By Mistake”, featuring “LE SSERAFIM”, “ILLIT”, and “KATSEYE”, landed at No. 60 on “Hot 100”, marking a meaningful milestone with a four-week consecutive chart run. In addition, “SWIM” by global pop icon “BTS” is maintaining its long-term hit formula, entering for 16 straight weeks at No. 84.

K-pop dominating the main album charts: the state of a strengthened global fandom

The “Billboard 200” main album chart is, in effect, K-pop’s private playing field. “ATEEZ”’s mini-album “GOLDEN HOUR : Part.5”, which topped last week’s chart, was ranked at No. 19 this week as well, proving the power of a solid global core fandom.

The K-pop acts scattered across the charts are also impressive. After “ARIRANG” by BTS claimed No. 25, a Netflix animated film “K-Pop Demon Hunters” OST album is closely following at No. 29. Meanwhile, Cortis’s “GREENGREEN” sits at No. 82, and “Beautiful Chaos” by KATSEYE is at No. 141, signaling a diverse expansion across genres.

One performance especially worth noting is “SEVENTEEN”’s new unit “V8” (DK and Vernon). They entered their first mini album “V8” at No. 128 on “Billboard 200”, achieving a feat as a unit with a successful global chart debut.
