“Hometown” Expands Its Reach to Osaka, Japan—Special Screening on the 28th

‘Hometown’ Marks 10 Years With Three Straight Screenings in Osaka… Hidden Pain Finally Comes to Light

An expanded version with testimonies from Asian victims is confirmed for a domestic release on the 26th of next month

Testimonies From Forgotten Women Reemerge at the Heart of the Archipelago

The film ‘Hometown: Sister, Let’s Go Home Now’, which inscribes the harrowing scars of Japanese military ‘comfort women’ victims onto the screen, reveals the truth at the heart of the archipelago. Distributor ‘Connect Pictures’ announced in an official statement on the 24th that it will hold a special screening event in Osaka, Japan, on the 28th.

The event will run for a total of three sessions over one day. Director ‘Cho Jung-rae’, who will be at the helm with the megaphone, and actor ‘Kang Ha-na’, who plays the lead role as Jeong-min, are expected to step onto the stage for greetings and engage in a deep exchange with local audiences. The screenings were made possible through close cooperation between film production company ‘JON Entertainment’ and ‘Theater Daloreum’, which has long worked on bringing the comfort-women issue to public attention in the local area.

‘Hometown: Sister, Let’s Go Home Now’ is an expanded version produced to mark the 10th anniversary of the film ‘Hometown’, which originally opened in 2016 and delivered a heavy, lingering emotional impact. It tells the story of how Jeong-min, a girl who was violently taken away during the Japanese colonial period, and Young-ok (played by Son Sook), who spent her life hiding in silence under the weight of lifelong guilt, come to soothe and heal deep wounds from the past through ‘Hometown Good’.

In particular, this expanded version does more than simply revisit the original release. Beyond the existing screening footage, it strengthens the film’s historical value and message by adding for the first time the hidden testimonies and stories of numerous women across Asia who were forced to endure the same kind of sexual violence they had to report.

After first meeting overseas audiences with the Osaka special screening event, it returns to Korean audiences next month through ‘domestic release’ on the 26th.
