A New Box-Office Benchmark? Actors With Multiple $1 Billion Films in the 2020s

Are new movie stars being born? As of Aug. 14, 〈Spider-Man: Brand New Day〉 and 〈Odyssey〉, both now playing worldwide, have surpassed US$1,722,310,000 and US$1,127,010,000 at the global box office, respectively, riding a strong summer run. The two films are worlds apart in genre and story, but both list Tom Holland and Zendaya among their principal cast, tying the projects together in several ways. Unlike the 2010s, when billion-dollar pictures kept coming one after another, the 2020s have seen theatrical grosses slow at times because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even so, several actors have already appeared in multiple films that topped US$1 billion this decade. Starting with Tom Holland and Zendaya, here are the actors who have appeared in billion-dollar films in the 2020s.

Tom Holland and Zendaya are among the hottest names of summer 2026. Holland has emerged as one of Hollywood's leading actors, while Zendaya has moved from being a girls' "wannabe" idol to someone who now firmly commands the industry's attention. The couple delivered happy news at the start of 2026 when they married; the wedding was private and was reported afterward. On top of that personal good news, the two films that feature both performers—〈Spider-Man: Brand New Day〉 and 〈Odyssey〉—have dominated the summer marketplace, making this arguably their best performance of the year. Three of their 2020s releases—〈Spider-Man: No Way Home〉, 〈Spider-Man: Brand New Day〉 and 〈Odyssey〉—have each passed the US$1 billion mark. At this point, 〈Spider-Man: Brand New Day〉 is all but certain to reach US$2 billion, giving it a strong chance of becoming 2026's top-grossing film. That milestone is especially meaningful for Holland: it signals he has moved beyond claims that his box-office success was due to Iron Man or the three Spider-Men and has established himself as a standalone box-office draw. Holland currently has no immediate next project announced, while Zendaya will return at the end of the year in 〈Dune: Part 3〉, which could add another hit to her record.

Zoe Saldana & Sam Worthington

〈Avatar: The Way of Water〉 US$2,334,480,000

〈Avatar: Fire and Ashes〉 US$1,485,990,000

True to her nickname as the highest-grossing actor in history, Zoe Saldana has continued to post huge box-office numbers in the 2020s. Working across both the Avatar franchise and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Saldana has amassed a total of US$14,200,000,000. About US$6,000,000,000 of that sum comes from the Avatar series alone. 〈Avatar: The Way of Water〉 (2022) and 〈Avatar: Fire and Ashes〉 (2025) earned US$2,334,480,000 and US$1,485,990,000, respectively. Naturally, not only Saldana but also co-stars, including Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang, the lead actors from 〈Avatar〉 2 and 3, have claimed the honor of being the decade's top box-office stars. We list this achievement under the names of these two performers, who continue to carry leading roles.

Chris Pratt

〈Jurassic World: Dominion〉 US$1,001,970,000

〈The Super Mario Bros. Movie〉 US$1,360,780,000

〈Super Mario Galaxy〉 US$1,012,530,000

Chris Pratt, who also crossed paths with Zoe Saldana in the Marvel sphere, has proven he remains one of the biggest box-office draws of the 2020s. The final installment of the Jurassic World series—which closed the six-film saga that began with Jurassic Park—〈Jurassic World: Dominion〉 opened in 2022 and topped US$1 billion. Immediately afterward, the 2023 animated hit 〈The Super Mario Bros. Movie〉 earned US$1,360,780,000, giving Pratt back-to-back billion-dollar hits. Casting Pratt as the voice of Mario — with Pratt voicing Mario instead of long-time voice actor Charles Martinet — drew criticism in many quarters, but the film's box-office success ultimately earned Pratt recognition for the role. The 2026 release 〈Super Mario Galaxy〉 didn't match the scale of its predecessor but still crossed the US$1 billion mark, reaffirming Pratt's star power.

Miles Teller

〈Top Gun: Maverick〉 US$1,503,260,000

〈Michael〉 US$1,016,060,000

Many viewers still remember him as the actor from that drumming movie, but Teller appears in 〈Top Gun: Maverick〉 (2022) and 〈Michael〉 (2026), and both films exceeded US$1 billion. In particular, his beach dance moment in 〈Top Gun: Maverick〉 proved unexpectedly popular, shifting his public image from "the drummer guy" to "the fit guy with an odd dance," which is itself a kind of success. A sequel to 〈Michael〉 is already confirmed, so if the series continues steadily before the 2030s, another addition to this list is virtually guaranteed.
