Kim Hyang-gi Becomes a Hairstylist in JTBC's 'Fly High, Butterfly' Teaser

"The universe's first hairstylist drama" — Kim Hyang-gi, Choi Daniel and Oh Yoon-ah preview a human story set in a salon

JTBC released the first teaser for its new weekend drama Fly High, Butterfly, billing it as "the universe's first hairstylist drama." The series is written by Park Yeon-seon and directed by Kim Da-ye and Kim Bo-gyeong. Produced by GNG Production and SLL, the series is set to premiere on Saturday, September 19.

Fly High, Butterfly centers on the hairstylists and interns at the salon Naraollara Nabi as customers seeking affirmation come through its doors.

The drama follows four interns who dream of becoming hairstylists. Kim Hyang-gi plays Gippeum, a timid but diligent senior intern; Park Jung-woo appears as Mu-yeol, the youngest intern. Mun Tae-yu portrays a quiet, taciturn, late-blooming intern nicknamed Woo-seon, and Kim Ga-hee plays the consistently kind intern Suri.

They are joined by three professional hairstylists: Choi Daniel plays Gwang-su, a stylist who trusts his professional judgment; Oh Yoon-ah stars as salon owner Michelle; and Shim Eun-woo appears as Jen, a stylist with an engineering background, rounding out a cast of sharply distinct characters.

The first teaser highlights the particular intimacy of a hair salon: a place where people entrust their hair—something they rarely let others touch—and sometimes share stories they would not tell even family or friends. The production team said, "The colorful character play and chemistry among the seven hair designers and interns are major points of interest. We plan to present a 'human story' that reflects all of us, so please look forward to it."

Written by Park Yeon-seon, who also wrote Age of Youth and Love Story, and co-directed by Kim Da-ye, director of Hello Dracula, and Kim Bo-gyeong, director of When the Wind Blows and Mystic Pop-up Bar, the new JTBC weekend drama Fly High, Butterfly will premiere on Saturday, September 19 at 10:40 p.m. and will air thereafter on Saturdays at 10:40 p.m. and Sundays at 10:30 p.m.
