The grandeur of IU’s ‘100th concert’ returns in special theater screenings
IU, an unrivaled icon in the history of South Korean popular music, will once again bring a powerful experience to theaters as she marks her 18th anniversary since debut. With offline performances recently postponed for health reasons, two concert films offering an epic scale will hit the big screen in succession to ease fans’ deep disappointment.
CGV ICECON, the films’ distributor, officially announced on the 3rd that ‘IU Concert: The Golden Hour’ (2022) and ‘IU Concert: The Winning’ (2024), which capture IU’s landmark performances, will return to theaters exclusively on the 9th and 16th, respectively. The films go beyond simple concert footage, using state-of-the-art theater systems to fully restore the explosive energy shared by the artist and audience.
‘IU Concert: The Golden Hour,’ which reaches audiences first on the 9th, is the first concert film to document the historic moment in September 2022 when IU became the first female singer from South Korea to perform at Olympic Main Stadium. The visual spectacle that once lit up the night sky—including a dazzling drone show and a large hot-air balloon—will be vividly recreated on screen.
On the 16th, ‘IU Concert: The Winning,’ which captures the excitement of IU’s first world tour and her 100th solo concert overall, will follow. The film will be available not only in standard 2D theaters but also in immersive special formats such as ‘SCREENX’ and ‘4DX,’ featuring multidimensional screens and multisensory experiences. It is expected to provide an intense level of immersion, making viewers feel as if they are at the center of an actual concert venue.
Meanwhile, IU was forced to cancel her Goyang solo concert scheduled for this month because her patulous Eustachian tube, a condition in which the Eustachian tube remains abnormally open, had worsened. The release schedule for her sixth full-length album was also temporarily postponed, disappointing fans. The theater screenings, however, are expected to serve as a meaningful gift that renews the significance of her 18th anniversary.
