K-zombie hit that conquered global screens arrives in Korea in stunning resolution

The Korean Film Archive (KOFA) is bringing ‘Train to Busan,’ the film that sparked the K-zombie phenomenon, back to the big screen in 4K to mark its 10th anniversary. The special screening, set for Nov. 3 at Cinematheque KOFA in Seoul’s Sangam-dong, offers a rare chance to watch the acclaimed film reborn in breathtaking picture quality for free.

When it opened in 2016, ‘Train to Busan’ became the first Korean zombie film to surpass 10 million admissions, marking a major milestone in Korean film history. The film is now reaching overseas theater audiences in 4K, ahead of its return to domestic screens. It has been re-released in major markets including the Philippines, North America, Japan and Italy, underscoring its stature as a global box-office hit. The event will bring the internationally acclaimed 4K remastered version to Korean audiences.

After the screening, director Yeon Sang-ho will attend in person and lead a conversation with the audience. The session will explore behind-the-scenes stories from the shoot with actors including Gong Yoo, Jung Yu-mi and Ma Dong-seok, who battle to survive aboard the KTX traveling from Seoul to Busan, as well as the unique value of genre films in South Korea’s film industry.
