Gong Min-jung Joins TVING’s ‘Sunning Baseball Team’ as Park Ji-hwan’s Wife, Reuniting With Director Min Jin-ki of ‘New Recruit 4’

Actress Gong Min-jung is joining TVING’s new original series ‘Sunning Baseball Team,’ continuing her nonstop run of work.

In the series, Gong will play the wife of Park Ji-hwan’s character, a married man who serves as a key member of the baseball team. She is expected to bring her signature sense of realism and lively chemistry as part of the couple. Gong, who has appeared in the films ‘Method Acting’ and ‘A Flowing Journey’ and the Netflix series ‘Monthly Boyfriend’ in succession this year, previously played Major Kim Ha-na in ‘New Recruit 4: Sabotage.’ Her performance drove the dramatic twist in the finale and left viewers wondering about a fifth season. With director Min Jin-ki’s continued confidence in her, Gong is moving straight into another project with him. Observers are watching to see how she will draw audiences in with her immersive performance this time.

‘Sunning Baseball Team’ is a human drama about married men who worry more about getting home on time than winning games as they take part every weekend in a “wives’ approval league.” Through their amateur baseball games, the series will depict the struggles and solidarity of ordinary breadwinners trying to rediscover the selves they have lost, offering viewers empathy and laughter. Director Min Jin-ki, a star producer known for directing ‘SNL Korea,’ ‘Blue Tower’ and the ‘New Recruit’ series, has teamed up once again with writer Yoon Ki-young, with whom he worked on ‘New Recruit 3’ and ‘New Recruit 4: Sabotage,’ raising expectations for a well-crafted comedy.

The agency, however, took a cautious official stance regarding reports that the casting had been finalized. Fantagio, Gong’s agency, said on the 2nd, “‘Sunning Baseball Team’ is one of the projects we have received an offer for and are currently reviewing positively.” Even so, industry sources are treating her appearance as virtually certain and expressing high expectations. ‘Sunning Baseball Team,’ which will portray the lives and humor of ordinary breadwinners, is set to begin full-scale production late this year and premiere next year.
