A masterful variation on 'the growing pains of youth' and 'bromance'

tvN's weekend drama 'Four Hands' carefully orchestrated the deep growing pains of youth and their yearning for music, ending its run with a dazzling finale that posted a '9.4% rating' (among households nationwide, according to Nielsen Korea).

A ratings agency said on the 5th that the finale, which aired the previous day, captivated viewers with its tightly drawn story of the two protagonists' diverging fates and dramatic reconciliation. The story of 'Kang Bio' (played by 'Song Kang') and 'Choi Jeong-yo' (played by 'Lee Jun-young'), who overcame deep wounds from the past to find their own melodies, finally reached its peak.

Overwhelmed by guilt toward Choi Jeong-yo, who had to leave the piano after injuring his shoulder because of Kang Bio's family, Kang Bio tried to give up music forever. But Choi Jeong-yo's heartfelt appeal opened his closed-off heart, and the two delivered a powerful catharsis by completing a 'duet after nine years'. The void left when Choi Jeong-yo then vanished without a trace became a catalyst that heightened the drama's tension.

Time passed. 'Three years later,' Kang Bio had grown into a pianist wandering places beyond music's reach when he miraculously encountered Choi Jeong-yo leading a choir at an unfamiliar cathedral in a foreign land. Their weighty exchange of glances stirred more emotion than words could and left a deep, lasting impression.

The series earned praise as a 'well-made bromance' for its three-dimensional portrayal of the friendship and rivalry between two young men from their teens into their late 20s. Ratings rose from 3.4% in the premiere to break the 9% barrier in the finale, powered by the two actors' commanding on-screen chemistry, giving the series a strong finish with a 'personal best'.
