Estranged brothers join forces in a crisis as family bonds shine

Ryu Seung-ryong and Park Hae-joon, two of South Korea's leading character actors, star in 'Jeonggane' as brothers whose relationship is worse than that of enemies. The film will hit theaters Dec. 2. Distributor Lotte Entertainment announced the release date on the sixth, previewing the actors' powerful chemistry and the intense immersion it will bring to theaters.

The film follows brothers Mansu and Byeongsu, who have lived for 30 years without exchanging a single word. When a life-threatening crisis strikes their village, the estranged siblings reluctantly join forces to protect Jangsu, the calf kept as a family heirloom, setting off a tumultuous story.

Veteran and rising Chungmuro talent combine in a polished comedy

Ryu Seung-ryong plays Mansu, a brother who is especially brusque with his younger sibling, bringing dimension to the character's eccentric, playful side beneath his trademark seriousness. Park Hae-joon plays Byeongsu, who responds to his older brother with sharp-edged hostility, driving both the film's taut tension and its explosive comic chemistry.

Ong Seong-wu, who has been active across multiple fields, joins the cast as Jeonghun, a rookie veterinarian caught between the two brothers. He is expected to inject energy into the film as a scene-stealing presence. The film is directed by Kim Ji-hyun, who demonstrated a deft touch writing the drama 'Romantics Anonymous' (2025) and directing 'Splash Splash LOVE' (2015). The film also marks her feature-film debut, drawing attention from across the industry.

Meanwhile, 'Jeonggane' has been officially invited to the 'Korean Cinema Today' section of the 31st Busan International Film Festival, which opens on the sixth, and will be unveiled to film fans worldwide for the first time. Expectations are building for the polished comedy shaped by a solid narrative and proven performances.
