Ryu Seung-ryong and Park Hae-joon play sworn-enemy brothers in Jeong Family, directed by Kim Ji-hyun, which has set its release date for Dec. 2 and unveiled its first stills. Lotte Entertainment is handling the film’s presentation and distribution. Yong Film produced it, with Studio Noongil Co., Ltd. serving as co-producer.

Jeong Family follows Mansu (Ryu Seung-ryong) and Byeongsu (Park Hae-joon), brothers only on paper who have lived for 30 years without exchanging a word. When a crisis hits their village, the two join forces to protect a calf named Jangsu, born as if by fate in the middle of it all.

Ryu Seung-ryong, who has delivered outstanding performances across genres, takes on the role of Mansu, a brother who is gruff only with his younger sibling, bringing a serious yet quirky charm to the character. Park Hae-joon, known for his nuanced performances in every project, plays Byeongsu, a younger brother who is prickly only with his older sibling, creating a believable brotherly dynamic with Ryu that could not be more different from his co-star. Ong Seong-wu joins the cast as Jeong-hoon, a rookie veterinarian in Hoengsan County who carefully navigates the relationship between the two sworn-enemy brothers, adding energy to the film.

The first stills offer a striking contrast between Mansu’s serious yet warm demeanor as the longtime operator of Jeong Family Ranch and Byeongsu’s prickly attitude as he puts up an “Original Jeong Family” sign, clearly conscious of his older brother. The images also show Jeong-hoon, an enthusiastic rookie veterinarian beaming beside the calf, fueling curiosity about the unpredictable turns ahead for the trio.

Jeong Family is the latest film from Yong Film, the production company behind The Handmaiden, Believer and The Call. It also marks the screen debut of Kim Ji-hyun, who directed the drama Splash Splash Love. Jeong Family opens nationwide in theaters on Dec. 2.
